So Everyone's Wearing Shells Again

Is it just me or are shells suddenly wildly back in fashion?

In the midst of almost every instagram influencer garlanded with layers of coin necklaces, the next twist on must-have jewellery has happened, with the arrival of the coin’s cooler, artistic sister, the shell.

Appearing in jewellery collections both locally and around the world, we’re seeing it happen in Australia, championed by cult jewellery label Reliqiua, with their dainty single conch shells, dipped in gold, hanging from the finest of gold strings. Overseas, Aurelie Biderman is doing something very similar, only with an injection of her trademark colourful zest. In Berlin, we’re seeing exciting label Wald using the shell as a key motif, ladling tiny pearls into shells, like an exquisite find of treasure hanging right around your neck.

Who wouldn’t want to take a small part of the beach with them in their day to day life? When something so simple can revive a simple jeans and tee combo, or add the touch of vintage to a contemporary outfit, the shell trend has got our vote.
